Dr. Patrick Pirotte is the founder and CEO of Child and Family Eye care in Wichita Kansas. He also started and created the dedicated vision therapy clinic called VEO. VEO is a Spanish word which means “I see”.
Dr. Pirotte entered optometry because of his substantial and disabling vision problems as a child and young man. He was so disabled as a teenager and young adult, that he was forced to drop out of college because of constant headaches and visual symptoms.
Fortunately, a pioneer in vision therapy in Wichita, Dr. Dorthea McCoy, treated him and rehabilitated him sufficiently to restore his visual function. (see this video for a 2 minute summary)
Dr. Pirotte started the practice in 1985 and it became the largest children's vision clinic in Kansas very soon.
At the midpoint of his career, he wanted to share his knowledge with students and so began accepting externs from 5 different optometry schools nationally. As of 2022, he has mentored over 105 student doctors.
In 2010, Dr. Pirotte was selected as one of the first 5 practices nationwide to start a private practice residency. He completed his 12th resident last year, and has ended his residency supervisory job.
The residents he trained are now successfully in practice all over the US, from Idaho, to North Carolina. Many of them have named their clinics Child and Family Eye Care, in honor of the name he created for his own clinic!
Dr. Pirotte has never lost his passion for a single goal: to maximize the visual abilities of the children and adults that he sees; we have the best, most experienced, and busiest office in Kansas devoted this end.
We are also proud to treat you like our family. We have a super staff, facility, and equipment to serve you for your needs.
